Another Batman Villain: Scarecrow in Dark Knight

I was (again) surfing the web and saw that Scarecrow, a Batman villain from the comics, would again be appearing in The Dark Knight. I sorta remeber being told about his appearance in it a few months ago, but I remembered just now, after I wrote about Harvey Dent.

So.... I looked on Google for a picture of Scarecrow in Dark Knight.... and this is what I found. The shot of Batman jumping onto a white van that Crane is driving.

Now... Im still not sure what role he plays in the film, and the reason I thought he wouldn't be in the film is because I also recall DC saying that he would be in Batman: Gotham Knight, which takes place between Begins and Dark Knight. I guess I thought his story would be resolved in the animated movie.
